One person is dead after a multiple vehicle crash on Auckland's southern motorway that's expected to cause Friday night traffic chaos.
The incident occurred about 4pm between the Te Irirangi Drive and Otara exits on the northbound carriageway.
Emergency services are still on the way to remove others from their vehicles.
Serious crash investigators are making their way to the scene.
The motorway is closed northbound between the Manukau and Otara exits.
Police are warning of considerable congestion. Motorists are requested to avoid these areas or face long delays. Northbound traffic is best to use State Highway 20 but this is likely to also become congested.
