Police were led on a high-speed pursuit down Auckland's Southern Motorway this morning before the fleeing driver crashed into a median barrier.
Police northern communications centre shift manager Inspector Andy Brill said officers spotted a vehicle with a smashed back window driving in the central city and signalled for it to stop.
Instead, the stolen vehicle was driven on to the motorway and led the single pursuing police vehicle on a south-bound chase which at times reached speeds of 150kmh.
Mr Brill said the pursuit lasted about four minutes before the vehicle crashed into the median barrier near the Greenlane exit.
Police arrested the driver.
