Donald Trump has mentioned New Zealand and Australia in a tweet attacking The New York Times and said he was ``always available'' to their leaders.
The mention came in a series of early morning tweets attacking The New York Times for suggesting his transition team was having problems and that world leaders were having trouble getting in touch with him.
He said the Times was totally wrong and he had spoken to many leaders.
``I have recieved [sic] and taken calls from many foreign leaders despite what the failing @nytimes said. Russia, U.K., China, Saudi Arabia, Japan'' he tweeted at 1.17am.
A few moment later, at 12.27am he tweeted: ``Australia, New Zealand and more. I am always available to them. @nytimes is just upset that they looked like fool in their coverage of me.''
Prime Minister John Key spoke with the United States president elect on Wednesday morning, after initially missing Mr Trump's call on Monday.
The pair talked about the Kaikoura earthquake, trade and the bilateral relationship. Mr Trump also asked Mr Key to pass on his regards to New Zealand golfing legend Sir Bob Charles.
Trump is a prolific tweeter. He has tweeted almost 34,000 times and has more than 15 million followers.
The New York Times was one of his harshest critics during the election campaign.
