CCTV footage of Chch fire suspects released

Police investigating the suspicious fire that broke out at a Christchurch scrap metal yard on August 17 have released CCTV footage of the potential suspects.

Detective Sergeant Michael Varnam said police have released the video in a bid to identify the suspects who were filmed at the scene of the Garlands Rd blaze.

The footage shows a group of four people in the area at the time of the blaze.

"We know the footage is not very clear but we hope that someone will recognise those involved, particularly people who know them," Varnam said.

"This incident was extremely serious, and had it not been for the fast work of Fire and Emergency, could have caused considerable damage to homes and businesses, as well as serious risk to people’s lives.

"We also are asking anyone who has CCTV cameras in the area and thinks they may have relevant footage to contact police.

"It is important that anyone who knows who these people are or that has information that will assist police contacts us as soon as possible.
