Air New Zealand said it has been in talks with Virgin Blue for several months but no agreement has been reached.
The national carrier said it had become aware of media speculation that it was in discussions with Virgin Blue regarding a potential trans-Tasman alliance.
Air New Zealand said it would not comment further about the talks.
