A Hamilton accountant who admitted stealing millions of dollars from a family trust has been sent to jail for more than five years.
Gary Soffe, 52, pleaded guilty in May to nine counts of theft by a person in a special relationship and one count of obtaining by false accounting and obtaining by deception.
The charges related to about $4 million he stole from a family trust, which he used to fund a lavish lifestyle.
Judge Glenn Marshall sentenced him in Hamilton District Court today to five years one month imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of two years six months, the New Zealand Herald newspaper reported.
