National's Clutha-Southland candidate Hamish Walker has arrived for his election night party in Queenstown.
He's invited his partner Penny Tipu and about 100 family, friends and party supporters to a private dinner at Lone Star on Brecon St in the resort.
Mr Walker said it felt "bizarre" to wake up on election day as candidates are not allowed to campaign.
He took himself out to the back country to "get away from it all".
