The Harlem shake, heel toe, crip walk, cupid shuffle, glide and popping are all manoeuvres perfected by two Dunedin hip-hop teams competing in the New Zealand aerobic and dance championships this weekend.

King's and Queen's High Schools' Spacific 6 and Macandrew Intermediate's Mac 2 qualified for the national final in August after success in the secondary and intermediate hip-hop categories at the Otago and Southland aerobic and dance championships.

They will be joined by the equally energetic Queen's High School aerobics team, which also qualified for the national final in Wellington.

There are 10 pupils in the team - all of them placed at the regional championships in team and individual categories.

Queen's High School dance teacher Nicole Rogers said all three teams had been rehearsing for the past three months in preparation for the championship.

"They're all looking great.

"They realise the competition is going to be tough. The North Island teams are traditionally very strong," she said.
