Their film Ugamashkili (fire) was one of 12 selected from around New Zealand for the Firewise Mad Movie Challenge.
The movie is set in prehistoric times and was filmed on some of Dunedin's most beautiful beaches.
Deputy principal Brian Filipo said the pupils had to write, direct, film and edit their own script - in which they created their own language - without help from adults.
Their finished product was aired on TV2's Studio 2 yesterday afternoon, and the contributing pupils gathered, with snacks in hand, to watch the show.
Some shrieked with glee while others shushed them.
Mr Filipo said Brockville School's entry was the only one from the South Island to be selected as a finalist.
The winner would be determined by text and email voting, with the result expected early next month.
