On May 4-5, a group of outgoing, opinionated and creative pupils were chosen to create a radio show as a part of their English subject.
With the help of teacher Sonia van de Klundert, and Aoraki Polytechnic's 88.1 Monster FM radio show announcers Nick, Nik and Barry, about 20 students recorded the show while the rest of the classes videoed and were an audience to the process.
The students were given roles such as news and information readers, disc jockeys, managers and creative writers.
The show included a news section, music, a live acoustic performance, an interview with Bayfield High School's very own band, Crawling JELLY!, an interview with some of the leads in this year's school show Spamalot, advertisements, round table discussions and "a strange things to do when you are bored" segment.
But not before some tongue-twisters to warm up the vocal chords.
Sound bites about minor topics such as sandwich fillers and shout-outs were also included.
The students were let in on the tricks and techniques of radio broadcasting and learned information such as the energy level of songs which helps to determine when they are played throughout the show to create a good balance.
"It was an awesome experience," Misha Pearce, one of the students involved in the recording, said.
