Five schools enter Shakespeare competition

William Shakespeare's famous works will be played out by Otago secondary-school pupils at the University of Otago campus in Dunedin next Friday.

The university sponsors the annual Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Sheilah Winn Festival of Shakespeare in Schools.

This year, five Otago schools have registered for the regional competition. They are Columba College, St Hilda's Collegiate School, Otago Girls' High School, Taieri College and Logan Park High School.

The event, which begins at 4pm in the College of Education auditorium, will comprise pupil-directed five-minute plays as well as 15-minute performances composed by teachers.

A group from each category will compete at the national festival in Wellington in June.
