NHNZ's ZooMoo television explores the animal world by combining spectacular wildlife footage with a cast of funny, furry characters to help 3 to 7-year-old children develop a knowledge and affection for animals.
It aims to foster a lifelong love of conservation.
Although ZooMoo was originally produced as a stand-alone broadcast network, ZooMoo content will appear on Lightbox as 85 half-hour blocks at the end of September.
Lightbox is a New Zealand online television streaming service.
NHNZ managing director Kyle Murdoch said the channel was complemented by a revolutionary second-screen app that opened a world of interactive activities on digital devices such as tablets, which enhanced the viewing experience.
Mr Murdoch was thrilled ZooMoo was now available to New Zealand children.
''We think Lightbox is a perfect fit for ZooMoo as on-demand services take off worldwide and are becoming a fixture in Kiwi homes.''
Lightbox had also acquired 35 titles from NHNZ's documentary catalogue, he said.
ZooMoo may soon be watched by up to 100 million Chinese children a day after executive producers from China Central Television (CCTV) network visited the Dunedin facility recently to negotiate with NHNZ.
Mr Murdoch said NHNZ hoped to create a production partnership with CCTV Kids to create a learning programme for China.
CCTV Kids is the second-highest rating state-owned Chinese television channel.
Much of the programming would be voiced over in Mandarin before being sent to China, and much new ZooMoo content would also be made by CCTV Kids producers in China, Mr Murdoch said.
