A landlubber reported a boatie in distress near Ravensborne this morning, but further investigations poured cold water on the incident.
A police spokeswoman said officers responded to a report of an overturned vessel in Otago Harbour at 11.35am.
Coastguard New Zealand spokesman Ben Parsons said that Coastguard was called an area off State Highway 88 where a yacht had tipped over.
By the time they arrived, the owner had righted the boat.
Together they went back to the Ravensbourne Boating Club, he said.
Mr Parsons encouraged people to log their marine trips as a safety precaution.
