A construction worker was injured  on the  site of the Otago Polytechnic’s $20million accommodation complex yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the site just before 9am yesterday.

A St John spokesman said a man in his 20s was taken to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries.

Fire appliances from Dunedin Central and St Kilda assisted paramedics.

A WorkSafe New Zealand spokeswoman confirmed the health and safety watchdog was investigating the incident.

"WorkSafe has been notified and is investigating," the spokeswoman said yesterday.

"Investigators were on the scene this morning.

"It appears the incident occurred when plumbing work was being undertaken joining pipes and one person was injured.

"We are unable to provide further information now that an investigation is under way."

Work continued on the site yesterday morning.
