A Dunedin bar is glad its patrons’ favourite drop has been restocked after its reputation was put on the line because of a shortage.

Emerson’s Brewery yesterday confirmed its flagship Emerson’s Pilsner had been out of stock for the past week.

Brewery director Todd Gordon said a combination of overselling and a large event order had led to the beer’s absence.

But it was back in stock yesterday and kegs had been "personally delivered" to proprietors ensuring local customers had access in time for the weekend.

Mr Gordon offered his sincere apologies.

Inch Bar owner Phil Knight said it had been dealing with the brand for the past 30 years and it had never run out of a product like this before.

The bar did not have the storage facilities that larger ones did, he said.

"So a week without the beer is critical to us.

"It’s so unfathomable for people to think Emerson’s don’t have stock of the pilsner. It's been a real experience for us.

"Emerson's Pilsner is a great beer, but do we need to have a backup plan of a clone recipe with another brewer?"

While he was loyal to the Dunedin-based Brewery, he felt pretty let down when he was told the beer was not going to arrive on Monday when it was supposed to.

"If they [told] us earlier, we could have reacted earlier, but we were left in limbo."

The bar was restocked with the pilsner yesterday afternoon.
