Warning to car owners

Police believe several thefts in the Tainui area may be linked.

Two parked vehicles in Angle Ave were entered on Friday night, with a wallet taken from one.

A wallet was also taken from a car parked nearby in Aotea St, Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin, said.

Two of the vehicles were unlocked and it was reminder for people to lock their vehicles and remove their valuables.

''The moral of the story is lock your car,'' Sgt Aitken said.

Police wanted to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the weekend.

The crimes occurred a ''stone's-throw apart'' and could involve a single offender.

''People should be wary in that area that someone might be active,'' he said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Dunedin police on (03) 471-4800 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
