The pupils were on their way to radiate ''warmth and light'' to Ross Home residents.
The school's executive officer, Clare Ridout, said about 60 pupils aged between 3 and 12 carried lanterns from Chingford Stables to the courtyard of Ross Home in Northeast Valley in Dunedin and sang ''lantern songs'' to the rest-home residents.
The pupils had been making ''a mixture of different lanterns'' for the past two weeks to carry on the annual walk, she said.
''It is a chance for the children to share some of their warmth and light to other people in the community. It is an act of giving,'' she said.
