Dunedin Rudolf Steiner School and Kindergarten pupils (from left) Grace Cunningham (11), Gabriella Oswald (11), Sofia Barriga (12), Zoe Degas (12) and Benny Holloway (12) sing on a lantern walk in Dunedin last night.

The pupils were on their way to radiate ''warmth and light'' to Ross Home residents.

The school's executive officer, Clare Ridout, said about 60 pupils aged between 3 and 12 carried lanterns from Chingford Stables to the courtyard of Ross Home in Northeast Valley in Dunedin and sang ''lantern songs'' to the rest-home residents.

The pupils had been making ''a mixture of different lanterns'' for the past two weeks to carry on the annual walk, she said.

''It is a chance for the children to share some of their warmth and light to other people in the community. It is an act of giving,'' she said.
