Warehouse plans new stationery store

Warehouse Stationery may soon have a second outlet in Dunedin, if the company is successful with a resource consent before the Dunedin City Council.

The company has applied for consent in a building on the corner of Andersons Bay Rd and Kensington Ave, by the Andersons Bay Rd entrance to the South Dunedin Warehouse and Pak'n Save car parks.

A Warehouse spokeswoman could not be contacted yesterday afternoon, but a report to a resource consent committee from council planner Jeremy Grey said six staff were expected to be employed at the store, which would be open from Mondays to Saturdays.

Mr Grey said it was understood the existing Cumberland St outlet would continue operating.

The consent was non-complying, as the site was in an industrial zone, but Mr Grey's report said retail activity was, to an extent, an anticipated feature of an industrial zone.

In his opinion, the proposed retail activity "will not be out of keeping with the existing character of the activities already established in the area".

He suggested the application should be granted, subject to parking requirements.

The hearing received one submission, in support, and begins tomorrow before city councillors Andrew Noone, Paul Hudson and Teresa Stevenson.
