Dunedin Pride treasurer Trak Gray leads this year’s pride walk from Dunedin’s Woodhaugh Gardens on Saturday.

The rainbow flag lent a splash of colour to a rainy morning.

The annual Pride Walk 2023 was the second of many events set to bring the city’s LGBTQI+ community together for Dunedin Pride Month.

They said the purpose of the walk was to get together and spend quality time with people.

Therefore, although the weather was wet, participants would still enjoy the walk — even if it was simply to find a cafe. The walk had become a pride month tradition in collaboration with lesbian walking group the Wild Woman Walkers.

There was a misconception that Pride was mostly a student endeavour, but there was a mixture of younger and older community members.

The intergenerational connection was "magic", they said.

Dunedin Pride Month began on Friday night with a party at Lan Yuan Dunedin Chinese Garden attended by over 100 people, and would continue with a range of events from climbing and quizzes to poetry and parties.

"We have a huge calendar of events coming up if people are inspired to check out Pride."
