The Spring Buggy Walk Series rolled into action yesterday with about 25 mothers and children walking on the Ravensbourne to Maia pathway.
Sport Otago active movement co-ordinator Kate Saunders said the idea came after she was approached by a mother who wanted to start a "pramathon".
The group decided to organise a series of walks, starting small and building up to more challenging tracks, before holding a pramathon next year, she said.
"It is just about shaping people to be more active and utilising our natural environment."
She hoped if children saw their parents being active, they would lead active lives as well.
The next walk will be along Portsmouth Dr on October 29.
Those interested can meet at the Kitchener St reserve at 10am.
