Viral prince-kisser can’t wait for Charles’ coronation

A Dunedin woman who stole a kiss from Prince Charles will be glued to this weekend’s coronation.

Dunedin retiree Lesley Hayde went viral for kissing Prince Charles during a visit to the Dunedin Railway Station back in 2015.

"I saw him coming out of the station with Camilla and shouted ‘give us a kiss Charlie’," she said.

The British royal then walked over before she grabbed him and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"Then, of course, I was surrounded by radio and security people.

"It went viral. My brother was calling me from England saying I was on the telly."

Her excitement grew as she prepared for Charles’ coronation.

The coronation of King Charles will take place this Saturday. It follows the death of his mother, the Queen, in September.

"I quite like him ... he’s always been into looking after the world, the youth and the garden.

"I think he’d be a good king; he is a very caring person," Mrs Hayde said.

She immigrated to New Zealand from England about 55 years ago at just 21 years old, and has lived in Dunedin ever since.

A dress-up in her royal outfit and watching party with her friends would be on the cards for the coronation, she said.

"I am pleased he has finally made it. I hope all goes well for Charles and Camilla."
