The University of Otago has been forced to abandon another of its Christchurch buildings after it was found to be earthquake-prone.
Otago University property services director Barry MacKay said the university withdrew staff from a building on Oxford St on May 10, after which the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority declared the building unsafe for occupation.
The closure of the building placed further pressure on the university's Christchurch campus and as a result some staff were now working from home, Mr MacKay said.
As a result of the closure, the university had accelerated the repair and upgrading of three university-owned houses in Christchurch.
It was also building some temporary office buildings in Dunedin, which would be transported up to Christchurch within the next six weeks.
