Pupils from around Dunedin had a sports-filled day at what might be their future stomping ground.
Kaikorai Valley College held its annual sports day at the school yesterday, where it hosted pupils from all its contributing primary schools for a day of sports and fun.
"The Kaikorai students start off the day with a sponsored fun run. This is a fundraiser for the school and a day of sport for the kids."
"I think this is the 14th year. It was the brainchild of one of our former PE teachers.
Sporting organisations were invited along to the day to plug their sports. A lot of pupils picked up activities they might never have encountered before.
"We also have kubb, which is a great game for the entire family — not every family has a ping pong table or a pool table, but they can definitely play kubb together."
Kaikorai Valley College head of sport Jeremy Scott said the day was all about getting pupils to experience a wide range of different sports.
More than 600 pupils took part.
"He had the idea to combine a fundraiser with introducing Dunedin children to a range of different sports."
"A lot of kids haven’t played lacrosse before, so that’s cool seeing them pick up a stick.
Mr Scott said as great as the day was, nothing would be able to happen without the hard work of parents and volunteers.
