The university's Graduate Research School was launched this week. It was previously called Graduate Research Services.
Its newly appointed dean, Prof Rachel Spronken-Smith, said the school's launch was more than just about changing a name.
''The change in name has come along with a new mandate for more academic support, more services being offered to graduate research candidates, and more research into how best to support our graduate research community.''
''Our vision as a school is to be renowned for leadership in doctoral education, providing high-quality support and guidance to graduate research candidates, and achieving high retention and completion rates for research degree students,'' Prof Spronken-Smith said.
The school would provide administrative support to about 1300 doctoral candidates, 780 master's candidates, 900 supervisors, dozens of heads of department, and more than 90 post-graduate co-ordinators and administrators.
The school would be officially launched tomorrow, as the first event of the university's annual ''Graduate Research Month''.
Other events include the Supervisors of the Year Awards, a public post-graduate open day, a Twitter conference and the final of the ''three-minute thesis'' competition.
