Two Dunedin teenagers facing burglary charges are helping with police investigations of other burglaries in the city, Sergeant Ed Baker says.
A 17-year-old and 19-year-old were arrested by police early yesterday after police were called to a Grange St house near the University of Otago campus.
Sgt Baker said occupants of the student flat discovered the teenagers inside about 2.20am.
The young men were not known to the occupants and were allegedly trying to steal items from the house, he said.
''When confronted by the occupants the teenagers did a runner, but we found them in the close vicinity soon after. Nothing was taken from the house but they were found in the act of taking stuff.''
Sgt Baker said the teenagers were known to police for ''that type of activity'' and each faced a single charge of burglary as a result of the incident.
''They are helping us with inquiries about other burglaries in the area,'' he said.
