A man and woman were arrested after an incident in Pine Hill, Dunedin, at the weekend.
Police were called after a 40-year-old truck driver allegedly knocked down telephone wires while manoeuvring his truck around Forrester Ave.
Acting Senior Sergeant Tania Baron said the truck driver failed a breath test and then elected to have a blood sample taken.
As he was being taken to a police car, a 29-year-old woman became abusive toward the officers.
They decided to arrest the woman, but she ran off into a house and picked up her child, Acting Snr Sgt Baron said.
Eventually, the woman released the child, but in the process of being handcuffed, kicked a police officer and a police car.
"The officer called for assistance in a very high-pitched voice," Acting Snr Sgt Baron said.
The woman was charged with resisting arrest, using offensive language and wilful damage.
