Tuna trawler Northern Odyssey trapped itself on the edge of the Otago Harbour channel near St Leonards about 1.30pm yesterday as it moved to let a tanker pass. Another fishing vessel, Blue Moves, could be seen attempting to tow the vessel free.
There were four crew on Northern Odyssey, but no-one was injured.
Deputy harbourmaster Pete Dryden said the trawler was in the channel as a tanker entered the harbour and the incident occurred as the two went to pass each other.

The vessel did not sustain any damage to its hull, he said.
The vessel was refloated about 8.30pm and returned to Port Chalmers.
