Dunedin Police Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit Sergeant Andrew Savage said the trailer came loose from its cradle when the truck turned from Andersons Bay Rd on to the motorway about 10am.
''Whilst it looked a bit unlucky, it was still secured to the chassis by a chain,'' he said.
Later, police were called after a truck's left rear wheel became loose near Mosgiel.
