Police are reminding Dunedin drivers to be mindful of winter hazards after a trampoline blew on to a Brockville road during the weekend’s winter storm.

While the trampoline was not known to cause any crashes at the weekend, the icy conditions and blowing snow contributed to about 11 crashes in and around the city in the 24 hours from 8.30am on Sunday to this morning.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police did not attend all the weather-related crashes as snow descended to sea level in Dunedin over the weekend.

But there were no reported injuries due to the poor driving conditions in the winter storm.

Police were called to Brockville about 2am today after reports of a trampoline in the road, Snr Sgt Bond said.

The trampoline had blown on to the road in the storm, he said.

‘‘It was located, and moved off the road.’’

Snr Sgt Bond said the incident served as a reminder to secure household items ‘‘such as trampolines’’, but also as a reminder for drivers to be mindful of driving in wintry conditions and the hazards that could
appear as a result.

At present the Dunedin City Council has closed six roads around the city due to snow and ice, those include Leith Valley Rd, Blueskin Rd and Highcliff Rd, from McKerrow St to Pukehiki.
