Dunedin Carrying Company Ltd is conducting its own investigation to determine how and why the trailer of a logging truck disconnected on State Highway 88 at Blanket Bay.
The truck was fully loaded with logs and being driven from Dunedin towards Port Chalmers when the trailer disconnected and crossed SH88 before ploughing through a road barrier, down a bank and into water on Monday morning.
No-one was injured in the 6.20am incident.
Dunedin Carrying general manager Campbell Gilmour said the trailer was able to be fixed and reused.
The company was insured and an assessor had been appointed to cost repair work and salvage expenses, he said.
It took hours to winch the trailer from the sea and retrieve floating logs.
State Highway 88 was reduced to one lane from about 11am on Monday during the recovery.
Police were also investigating the incident, to determine whether the driver should be charged, if he was found to not have secured the trailer to his truck.
