Well, that's it for another year.
The Fringe Festival was tucked up last night and is already dreaming in harlequin.
The 10th festival featured more than 300 artists and 60 events in Dunedin over the past 11 days.
''I'm really pleased about the quality of the programme. I thought it was outstanding. I'm very happy with what was presented,'' Fringe director Paul Smith said last night.
''I'm happy with the audiences and the feedback has also been very positive. Last year, we had 13,000 [over the festival] and we hope to match, or beat, that,'' he said.
''Because of the diversity of the programme, some events are always going to get mixed results, but that's the Fringe. Sometimes a show just won't click, or track, with audiences. Sometimes, that's down to the marketing and it's up to the artists and us to work on that.''
Kudos to the Dunedin City Council, too, for letting the Fringe take over the centre of town for 11 days. The Octagon looks good with people in it.
''That was a new thing for us and we'd love to do that again. It really did bring town to life and it engaged people by taking the festival to the people,'' Mr Smith said.
The curtain came down on the festival with the Fringe Awards at Queens last night, hosted by Tahu Mackenzie, Simon McKinney and Kill Martha.
Best of the Fringe was the Yellow Men (Clarke Hegan and Jed McCammon), who reinterpreted last year's Fringe through a series of bizarre daily performances.
''They worked so hard, in multiple spaces, and really engaged with people. It was fun and intriguing,'' Mr Smith said.
''They epitomised innovation, experimentation and originality, which are the core values of the Fringe.''
