Tuesday night's toga party at Forsyth Barr Stadium has been hailed as a roaring success, with student behaviour singled out for praise by both the University of Otago and OUSA.
Otago University director of student services David Richardson said the night was a ''highlight of O Week''.
''A good time was had by all and we are very pleased it went so well. We continue to strongly encourage students to have a good time, but to also keep safe and behave respectfully towards everyone in the Dunedin community,'' Mr Richardson said.
He was also keen to point out that the people arrested at a Castle St party on Tuesday night were not Otago students.
Otago University Students' Association communications co-ordinator Alasdair Johnston said the night was a ''great success''.
''We had a great turnout and the night ran smoothly. It was a great start to our music events for the week,'' he said.
As far as he knew, no students had been ejected from the event and only a small number were taken home by OUSA's ''Are You OK?'' team.
Police officers at the event had also praised it for being well run, he said.
He said the entertainment on offer was lapped up by the about 2700 students who went along.
''We had the Dunedin O-Taiko Drummers open the event and [they] were a huge crowd-pleaser, then DJ's Swaren Veygal and 50Cal played a fantastic set for the crowd.
''Backing up the music, we had visual effects including flame, confetti and CO2 cannons as well as laser lights, a big screen for the crowd and beach balls,'' he said.
A small number of students who had not redeemed their tickets for wrist bands at the OUSA office - as they had been advised to do - were delayed from entering the stadium.
