The Tindall Foundation has granted $22,500 to help Otago families and communities.
Family Works community development adviser Tracey Fuatavai said a grant would help Pine Hill residents grow vegetables in the community garden at Pine Hill School.
The grants also funded a Pine Hill sewing group, a monthly trip from Pine Hill for seniors for a coffee and for youth to travel to skate parks and other activities.
Presbyterian Support Otago development director Lisa Wells said $22,500 was granted this week for five Family Works services.
The grant included $2500 for the Pine Hill programmes and four $5000 grants for social work services in Dunedin, North Otago and Central Otago and a youth programme.
The social work services provided in Dunedin included emergency accommodation, food and clothing.
The grant for Central Otago would allow the ''highly successful'' buddy programme to be extended in Alexandra, Cromwell and Wanaka and would help Central Otago families with accommodation costs, she said.
''It can make a real difference in being able to offer programmes and services that individuals in the community need.''
The Tindall Foundation also granted $3240 to Columba Waiareka Weston Presbyterian Parish, near Oamaru, $10,000 to Flagstaff Community Church in Dunedin and $10,000 to East Taieri Church, Mrs Wells said.
The Tindall Foundation is a private charitable trust established by Stephen and Margaret Tindall in 1994.
Family Works is Presbyterian Support Otago's services for children, young people and families and includes family and social work, advocacy, budget advice, counselling, group support and parenting programmes, mentoring and youth transition programmes.
