Tickets have gone on sale for next month’s Dunedin Fringe Festival.

A few months ago, it had looked unlikely this year’s event would go ahead, but last October the Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust announced it would proceed.

Last night, the festival programme was launched at Te Whare o Rukutia in Princes St.

Trust co-director Kate Schrader said missing out on significant funding had led to a Boosted crowdfunding campaign.

The results "hardened our resolve", she said.

Joy would be the central theme of this year’s festival.

Dunedin City Council manahautu general manager of Maori, partnerships and policy Jeanette Wikaira said creative arts fostered inspiration, imagination and connection.

This year’s festival is a collaboration with Dunedin Pride.

Dunedin Pride treasurer Trak Gray said the festival had been inherently connected to the queer community.

The festival runs from March 16-26.
