Threatening signs 'bit of a strange one'

Mysterious signs complaining about weeds in a farmer's paddock have taken a threatening twist.

The crudely made signs have been erected three times on a Clarks Junction farm.

Senior Constable Helen Fincham-Putter, of Middlemarch, said police were taking the matter seriously, and the farmer was concerned.

The first sign appeared in December and the most recent was put up within the past fortnight.

''It is a bit of a strange one,'' Snr Const Fincham-Putter said.

''Someone had gone to a wee bit of effort.''

The first two signs were made from old wallboard, which had been painted white and then black lettering added.

Those messages, which were written in capital letters, said ''[Farmer's name] certified weed farmer'' and ''Weed infested farm''.

The smaller third sign - made from different material - had the message ''Winner. Weedy farm competition'', and written in both upper and lower case.

On the rear of that sign was written ''We will be back ***hole''.

Snr Const Fincham-Putter said the signs were most likely put up on Sundays.

The farmer could not be reached for comment.

• If anyone has information concerning the signs, they are urged to contact Snr Const Fincham-Putter on 021 191 5082, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
