More than 2500 University of Otago students completed course approval yesterday, before the start of the university's first semester.

University director academic services John Price said as usual, yesterday, the second day of the main, three-day-long course approval period, had been the quietest day.

About 4000 people, including many first-year students, had completed course enrolment requirements on Monday, the busiest day, organisers said.

Although the main approval period was over, significant numbers of students were expected to complete the process this week and next, Mr Price said.

Preliminary classes start on Friday.
