It was a sight you had to see to believe.
An estimated 15,000 people crammed into Baldwin St today for the annual Cadbury Jaffa Race and World's Steepest Street Party, in which 75,000 Cadbury Jaffas were rolled down the 19-degree gradient track.
The 2.8g balls got up to 100kmh (or 28m a second) on the street, which drops from 100m above sea level to just 10m over its 350m length.
There were three races, with 25,000 Cadbury Jaffas in each race, and a prize for the person who bought a ticket for the winning Jaffa.
The event aimed to raise up to $75,000, to be divided evenly between Make-a-Wish, Surf Lifesaving New Zealand and Parents Centre New Zealand.
