That maxim certainly paid off for a trio of John McGlashan College pupils last night in the years 9 and 10 Otago Daily Times Extra! Otago current events quiz at Kaikorai Valley College.
"We came second last year, so we thought we'd come back and try to go one better," Nic Taylor said.
"There were some quite challenging questions, especially the mystery questions." Identifying a series of national flags paraded on stage also proved challenging for the 73 teams entered from 12 Otago high schools.
The John McGlashan College 3 team won the quiz with 95 points out of a possible 100.
The King's High School 5 team edged out Columba College 3 for second place.
