More than 100 ghouls and goblins sipped on poisonous potions, largely rum-based, at the castle yesterday while they watched a performance of "The Naughty Christmas Horror Ball".
The show used the music of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in conjunction with pop and rock classics of the genre alongside improvisation, physical comedy, burlesque and interactive games.
A creepy green-haired "concierge" named Biff Baff was slinking up to guests as they dined before the show.
The ball was a very special occasion, he said.
"The master is building a muscle man. He’s been working on it for some time and he’s about to bring it out.
"So all the lovely guests are here to see his creation."
Then, suddenly, the ghoulish butler was possessed by the spirits of cynics past.
"So in other words it’s a big old fancy corporate Christmas do."
The show, created by Dunedin entertainment company DKCM, will play again tonight to a sold-out audience.
