It has been a less than rosy welcome to Dunedin for a dairy owner couple whose business has been broken into twice in the past two and a-half months.
Despite only being in the city for four months, Caversham Dairy owners Harry Singh and wife Kay Kaur's South Rd shop was broken into for the second time on Saturday morning.
A neighbour alerted police before anything was stolen.
The first break-in occurred early on December 10, the day the shop was supposed to open for the first time.
Thieves stole about $400 worth of goods.
Mrs Kaur said the couple were worried for their safety.
"It's a small business and we are working hard. People here are very nice, but these sorts of incidents, they scare you,'' she said.
The couple moved to the building's upstairs flat two weeks ago, after living in Mornington and in Christchurch and Invercargill before that.
Mrs Kaur said she was worried that if they were burgled again, the offenders might try to get upstairs.
Mr Singh had installed four CCTV cameras, at a cost of $750, since the last break-in.
"If these types of things happen, we will close the shop [early] because safety is the most important thing,'' he said.
He encouraged people in the area to be on the lookout.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said police were investigating the latest break-in, which happened about 3.30am on Saturday.
They were looking for three people, one possibly a female, he said.
