Emergency services were called to the Dunedin Gymnastics Academy’s Vogel St gym about 2.45pm yesterday after the incident.
The academy did not respond to requests for comment yesterday, but it is understood the girl’s injuries affected her spine.
A team of about 10 paramedics and firefighters carried the teen from the gym on a Stokes basket about 3.30pm before she was put into an ambulance.
A St John spokesman said the girl was in her early teens and was taken to Dunedin Hospital’s emergency department with serious injuries.
She was injured in a fall, he said.
No further details of the incident were available yesterday, including the specifics of her injuries.
A WorkSafe New Zealand spokesman said the agency had not been notified of the incident by yesterday afternoon.
The academy’s school holiday programme was running at the facility at the time, but it is not known if the teen was among those taking part.
