The three-bedroom home is for lease, after the golf club decided it was no longer needed as the green keeper lived elsewhere in the area.
Golfers keen to live within a stone's throw of the Dunedin links course may be out of luck, though, as the Dunedin City Council is looking for a "recreational tenant" to take up the lease from next year.
The house, which is owned by the council and is tucked away beside the Westpac Bowls Stadium, is required under the Reserves Act 1977 to be used for recreation purposes, as it is sited on reserve land.
Exactly what a "recreational" tenant is was not clearly defined in the Act, but it could include more passive recreational tenant such as a bridge club or even a sewing group, council reserves status officer Maria Sleeman said.
"Any voluntary recreation-related organisation can apply to lease the building, which currently has three bedrooms, kitchen, living area, laundry and carport but could be altered by the tenant as required," Mrs Sleeman said.
It could be used as the head office for a sport or recreation activity, or as clubrooms for a smaller organisation, and could be leased for a term of up to 14 years.
