Swann admits Sew Hoy kickbacks

Former Otago District Health Board chief information officer Michael Swann has admitted he was paid more than $755,000 by long-time friend and business associate Robin Sew Hoy as an inducement to give Mr Sew Hoy more of the board's information technology work.

Swann (48) pleaded guilty in the High Court at Dunedin today to one charge of corruptly receiving $755,153.89 from Robin Sew Hoy between January 6, 2000 and September 11, 2006 as an inducement to show Sew Hoy favour in relation to the provision of help desk services to the board.

He was remanded in custody for sentence on February 11 next year.

Swann is currently serving a prison sentence of nine and a-half years for unrelated charges of defrauding the board of almost $17 million with another business associate while employed by the health board.
