One sunny long weekend leads to another, with good conditions throughout Easter and upcoming for Anzac Day.
MetService meteorologist Kyle Lee said Oamaru enjoyed the warmest weather in the South over Easter weekend, with a high of 22.7degC on Saturday.
Following behind in Otago was Wanaka, with 22.3degC, and Alexandra, with 22degC.
In Southland, the hottest place was Invercargill with 20.1degC on Friday, followed by Wallacetown at 19.9degC and Gore with 19.8degC.
Anzac weekend was looking "pretty nice’’, as it fell on the back end of a complicated weather cycle.
There would be a bit of cloud and rain at the edge of the working week, but that would make way for sun on Saturday.
There would be some lingering cloud in Southland and some showers may creep in on Sunday, but overall it would be settled, he said.
He said there was little relief for dry areas in the South.
Last week the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa) announced hot spots of areas experiencing significant soil moisture deficits remained over much of Otago, but eased for much of Southland.
