Niwa climate scientist Nava Fedaeff said the spring weather on the Taieri was warmer and drier than usual.
The spring mean temperature at Dunedin Airport was 11.7degC — 1.3degC higher than average. It was the warmest spring on record at the airport since records were started in 1962.
During spring, 94mm of rain fell at the airport, only 62% of a normal spring rainfall, making it the third driest spring since 1962.
