As of Friday afternoon more than 1000 submissions had been received on the council’s draft 10-year plan and more than 63 people were scheduled to speak at the hearings starting today.
Council strategy and governance general manager Sandy Graham said the number of submissions received so far was well ahead of where they were during previous plan processes.
In 2015, more than 2000 submissions were received on that year’s plan.
Because submissions were open until April 23 (and submitters could choose to speak until Friday, April 13), numbers would increase, Ms Graham said.
Most popular submission topics included the city to waterfront cycle and walking bridge, the new Mosgiel pool, rates increases, cycleways and the harbourside/waterfront redevelopment.
People could still request to speak during the hearing process, and it was possible to speak without having made a submission, Ms Graham said.
