OUSA reception and services manager Fiona Bowker said the organisation never shirked from raising money for needy causes.
Those in Haiti needed the money to be raised quickly and she was pleased with how much was collected.
One of the volunteers, Kendyl Corbett, heard of the collection on Facebook and was happy to use her spare time to assist.
"I just thought I'd help out. I wanted to donate but I don't have a heck of a lot of cash at the moment."
She was surprised by the generosity of some people, with one man giving $30.
"It was amazing."
All money raised will go to the Oxfam relief fund.
