Arana College students, armed with rubbish bags and brooms, took to Dunedin streets yesterday to clean up the mess left by St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

About 30 students from the hall of residence turned up at Brackens View, in North Dunedin, at 10.30am yesterday and spent about an hour picking up bottles and boxes that had been discarded in the area.

Arana College resident Liam Nelson said community involvement had been a priority at the hall. Dunedin City Council parks and recreation group manager Robert West said staff had become aware of a St Patrick’s Day party at Brackens View and worked with the University of Otago’s proctor to have it cleaned up.

Well that's good to see, these students were probably not the ones who created this mess in the first place. Now what about the car that was smashed up, who is paying for the damages?.

Good on you guys eh. Dunedin residents appreciate your community spirit. There really are some jolly 'good buggers' out there.
