A police spokeswoman said they were called to Unity Park at 4.50pm on Monday after a vehicle drove on to the park.
There were no reports of injuries, the spokeswoman said.
A Dunedin City Council spokesman said the council had not been made aware of the incident, but was disappointed by it.
"It’s always really disappointing to see damage to our sports fields. We’ve reported the matter to police and we encourage anyone witnessing similar behaviour to do the same."
