Stretch, the crawler crane which has been a landmark on the Dunedin skyline while being used in the demolition of the former Cadbury factory, is on its way back to Christchurch.
The 74m-high, 250-tonne vehicle was used primarily to help dismantle the former factory’s silos, and was also
used to hoist demolition machinery up to the higher storeys of the complex.
It was yet to be decided if Stretch or some similarly sizeable crane would be needed for construction of the upper levels of the new hospital, a project spokeswoman said.
